I hated DKs until I actually made one.  Leveling a resto shammy during the expansion pack, I tried healing ramps  one fine day with 4 DKs.  Each one wanted to death grip their own mob.

Hilarious? Yes!

Fail? Yes!

Fun? No!

I named mine Craptastic as a joke because that's what I thought of them...and then I started facerolling people.

I recently learned herbing and maxed it in about 5 hours.  I then leveled from 83 to 84 by only herbing and mining.

Didn't get much new gear but I make 4000 gold selling mats and gems!

Losers of the week

Well, for me, the week is over.  Its Sunday night here in Korea.  I didn't have as much playtime as I wanted this weekend due to a road trip...but I did find one player AFK in a BG and another hacker using the old "pop through the ground trick".

1. Bimbolock - 85 Warlock - Auchindoun (BG AFK)
2. Khool - 80 DK (underground mining)

How do you level professions?

If you're an altoholic like me, you pick and choose your professions to support each other.  I've got 10 toons my my server and all but one have a 2nd profession.  I was always wondering how other people leveled their professions.  I really can't say I use a specific method as I just level as I need it.

Case in point was my paladin's Blacksmithing.  Palladude was my 2nd level 85 toon.  Mining was the easy part.  Since ret sucked, I leveled as prot, pulling 3-4 mobs at a time and wearing them down.  Kinda like tanking my own mini-instance.  Loot, heal, repeat.  Leveling that afforded me gear for my warrior and death knight as well.  I don't do heroics too much, the ones I have actually finished were on toons with professions which did not allow me to roll on the orb (Engineering and JC).  Kinda ticks me off but oh well.

Next thing I leveled was my JC on my shammy.  Too easy I must say, especially with three miners on my account.  I think this was the easiest one.  I'm at like 527 and just buying patterns to fill in the blanks.

Leatherworking is a mo-fo to level up, but I have a plan which actually works.  In the Vash starting area there are numerous crablike creatures.  I use my 80 lock to pull and dps while my friend on his 80 rogue loots and skins.  We both benefit in this fashon.  I could farm faster on my 85 mage but I'd lose the leveling benefit.

Back to the question, how do YOU level your professions? Bit by bit? As you level? Or do you wait till you are 85 and pay through the nose for it?

On a good note, my rogue's engineering is 522 and my priest's inscription is 522...getting there!

Losers of the week

Well, time to make a new series called Losers of the Week.  It will be a weekly list of the botters and hackers I come across.  I know on the Blizzard forums they do not allow you to post names and sucks, though I can see why.

Here's the list:

1. Demvarien (underground miner)
2. Illuminatio (underground miner)
3. Omgcharizard - Stormreaver (BG AFK)
4. Raiinah - Kel Thezad (BG AFK)

Sorry for such a short list, but was a tad busy over the weekend as I dinged 41 IRL.

Will make up for it next week with more!

Guild applications

Saw an interesting thing the other night in trade chat and to me it made perfect sense.  It seems a certain guild was recruiting for serious players, etc, and wanted applicants to go to its website and fill out an application.

That brought out more than one troll!  Unfortunately I had to log but it left me with a few thoughts as to why the guild was right to ask for serious players, and to fill out an application.

The guild in question is one of the oldest raiding guilds on Azgalor and is currently in the top 10 on server.  That being said, serious players will take the time to explain things were they can be seen by the entire guild, aka why are you leaving your current guild, what do you want from XYZ guild, etc.

The non-serious players, OS10 3D burn ninjas, and those who are interested in clearing out the guild bank won't do that.  That is what serious guilds like this avoid entirely.  Although it's probably happened, leading guilds don't get their bank cleared out by noobs who join the guild.  From what I have seen, it's always an inside job or a hacker.

So far, I've had one level 12 player join the guide and appriciate him coming in.  If he's on today, I'll offer him a few stocks runs!

Why does DPS stand behind the boss?

Or more likely, why do people like to get the tank killed?  Raid bosses (and some instance bosses) hit like a truck.  The 3rd boss in Stonecore (rock dude) hits hard on reg, like a hammer on steroids on heroic.  So why am I so pissed off about it today?

Ran a heroic with my pally who is barely raid geared.  I've tanked all the regs, know the fights, and want to get some upgrades to the 150k HP level.  I'm at about 133k buffed.

The two melee DPS last night were atrocious.  While their DPS was good (12-15k), they stood in front of the boss with me.  Had an enhancement shammy and a rogue with us and it was not pretty.  One wipe on 2nd boss (dragon) and after 3 on 3rd boss, I posted data from recount showing the insane # of parries by both of them and quit the group.

I then, on a whim, took some data from my rogue and warrior, who are also barely geared for heroics.  Went to the raid boss target dummy and stood in front and behind to see what kind of numbers I'd get.

I had my rogue, Flutterkicks, stand in front of the raid target dummy while I went and took a shower.  Came back and it was perfect, about a 1000 hits. If you notice, I hit only 47% of the time (Hit + Crit).  I failed to make contact at all 25% of the time.  That's 1 in 4 swings.  Great for baseball but this is a raid boss.  In addition, the part I am most concerned about is 112 parries.  Each time your swing is parried, the mob you are facing's swing timer is reset.  If the boss hits for 20k, guess what?  You could be hit for several 20k thwaks in a row, provided you have some fail people in your group.

I then had Flutter stand behind the raid boss while I went and cooked dinner.  Had to do something other than stare at the screen for 10 minutes and wonder when the hell it would be done.  This time, the results looked a helluva lot better.  My expertise could be higher (14/14) and my hit rating is 15.5%.  However, if you notice the hit %, its over 55%.  I failed to hit only 14% of the time.  Standing behind the boss alone with auto swing would improve my DPS by 100.
More to come on this as I want to test my other DPS classes and see how well they could screw up a raid group.

Latest Fad

No, I am not talking about the daily JC quest.  I'm going to finish out the Cataclysm quests on my druid next.  I pretty much leveled her using instances, thanks to Kordom, a damn good tank I've known for quite awhile.  He tanked, I healed.  As partial payment, I gave him potion after potion from my hunter.  Usually what happens is I run his lowbie through SM several times for XP while I get the city rep I need.  Then an hour later, I drag his ass to an instance or old world raid I need for achieve.  This weekend's run was Molten Core.

Back to the topic, my druid is geared enough to heal level 85 regular dungeons, but not good enough for heroics.  DPS gear is even worse as I was healing the whole time.  I was trying to do the dailies in Tol Barad and the croc quest was kicking my butt.  Needless to say, 600g later at the auction house, I went up about 15 points in average gear score.

First order of day is to finish Twilight Highlands...its the last place and therefore should have the best possible gear.  Next will be deepholm for the enchants to shoulder.

I figure with no major interruptions from North Korea, I can have Twilight done by Friday night...I'll be on vacation from Friday through the next week.  Travelling a tad but will have some major playtime!  Once I have the gear issue done, I think I'll start on the hunter after that to get her gear up to beginner heroic level.

Not to mention, all those quests are guild XP!  We're at level 7 and we need to progress.

Working on something else as well, will post in afternoon if I can get the data I need:

Why does DPS stand behind the boss? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?

I am a tank, that's why.  Screenshots and data to follow after lunch

To catch a hacker

We all hate hackers.  People to lie, cheat, and steal their way to the top.  I tell my daughter the only people worse than hackers are athiests and communists.  Ever since Cataclysm came out, I've been dealing with them in various locations.  It usually starts with me landing flying down to land near a node and a toon pops from under the ground and starts mining.  It can be a level 64 or an 85.  The first screenshot was taken in early feb when I put in a ticket.  I think those toons are now banned, I'll have to check when I get home.

I got a little more sophisticated with my writing style and began to articulate myself a little better, though it is kind of difficult to do it in under 500 characters.  Hell, try telling a GM someone ninja'ed the OS10 3 Drake burn in under 500 chars! LoL!  I began to research the toons doing the hacking by checking the armory profiles before I put in the ticket...every one of them had maxed mining.  Looking at the feeds, some had earlier achievements that day for other various stuff.  Guess they don't care eh?  I'm more than happy to report them.

Last one here, i didn't get lazy, I was on my way to uldum and decided to catch a few hackers in the process.  I did a /who for uldum and figured the three out there were botting and using a hack to move underground between nodes.  I usually send a test message to them asking some sort of stupid question, in this case, I asked for a port.  Never got a reply back from either of them.  I did send in the ticket eventually, and I'll have to dig up the reply screenshot someday.

I estimate I've reported at least 50 people for doing this.  At times, when I can, I'll use more than one account to send a ticket in, especially if it is a repeat offender or where my first ticket did not go through.

These people not only wreck the economy, the force honest players like us to work harder for something.

The challenge...

Well, after rejoining Trail Biters and seeing people did not have many achievement points, I decided I needed to get some of them off their butts.

I am offering 1k gold to the next toon to hit 5k Achievement points.  I'm #1 and #2.  My daughter, thanks to me dragging her around, is #3.  The GM, a good friend, is #4.

I further added some cash to the pot by saying if anyone can beat Flutterkicks to 5k, I'll give them 1k gold as well.

I'll post updates every so often.  I started this a week ago and Flutter already got 150 points.  I ain't screwing around so people better get busy.  I'll update every 10 days or so to see if anyone really
